American Tragedy was formed in 1998, based in San Diego CA. After building their first line up they went to play their first show in October of '98. Soon after the show, American Tragedy recorded their first 9-song tape, and released it independently shortly there after. Continuing to play shows in San Diego and record demos, they waited till 2000 to release material again, and this time it was with long time friends, also San Diego based "The Cause." This limited split CD "The Heraclitus Theory," was released on Congruency Records and Tear It Down Records. Following up this release, American Tragedy went right back in the studio and recorded a two song, self titled 7", also released on Tear It Down and Congruency Records. With several line up changes in the past, the current line up is Justin Greene, Todd Shields, Andrew Miller, Mike Ernie, and Ryan Douglass. American Tragedy have shared the stage with such acts as Converge, The Hope Conspiracy, Poison The Well, Over My Dead Body, Buried Alive, Ensign, Countervail, Carry On, Martyr AD, etc.
