HypoFixx - Vocals, Guitars and Programming

Subgenres:

It seems that once in a great while, someone mysteriously comes along and disrupts the way people have learned to appreciate music. A few achieve musical greatness while others are hardly ever noticed. In the case of this one-man industrial techno-metal artist, there seems to be a combination of both at work.

HypoFixx (b. April 21, 1976, Oakland, CA) realized at a very early age that a good amount of music in circulation did very little to satisfy his tastes -- nothing really seemed to sound good. It was at that point he decided to take songwriting by the throat and do something about it. His mission was to find everything that didn't work about modern music and pull it out of the songwriting process -- weak rhythms, excessive transitions, poor lyrics and, above all, overproduced vocals - resulting in a straight-forward, hard-hitting, no-frills blend of harsh guitars, solid dance beats and hypnotic melodies.

This self-made artist launched his first assault on popular music in May 2002 with the release of his first single "I'll Never Be" - a three-and-a-half minute anthem of self-identity and empowerment that instantaneously won the ears of both Canadian and American audiences in what seemed to be an overnight success. Immediately following its release, "I'll Never Be" was stapled as a dance floor favorite and made its way into clubs all over the east coast. With his video in rotation on MuchMusic's Uranium, OvenFresh Keepers and Loud, HypoFixx was catapulted into an international spotlight and introduced as a new leader in industrial music.

With the release of his debut full-length album From Man to Machine, HypoFixx continues to establish himself as a songwriter, producer and musician with influences that range from Ministry to Depeche Mode. Much like his songs, his overall musical goal continues to be unmistakably simple - "make music that you want to hear."

    Hardcore Annal Sects

Slayer's 1986 thrash metal classic, Reign in Blood, was originally to be distributed by CBS. When the label refused to do so (citing the graphic nature of the material), Rick Rubin and his label, Def American, stepped in.
