The Jonbenet are making ground quickly, they landed a debut album with Pluto Records and have been touring before and since its release this year. The band is currently working on new material which will be seen on the sophomore release which will see a release next year. With the ball already rolling they waste no time working on another new album which will be filled with influences taken all over the damn place which makes for their widely adaptable sound.
TheHXC: So you think he really did it right?
The Jonbenet: What?
TheHXC: Ever see that Mad TV skit when they do Hollywood Squares with Jon
Benet?
The Jonbenet: No.
TheHXC: When did The Jon Benet begin?
The Jonbenet: The Jonbenét began playing shows in August 2003.
TheHXC: How did you guys find yourselves on Pluto Recordings?
The Jonbenet: Broke and tired.
TheHXC: How's all the touring been going?
The Jonbenet: We've been writing lately. The touring's great, met lots of cool bands, lots of shitty ones too.
TheHXC: Are you guys used to a lot of touring?
The Jonbenet: We've only been on tour three times, but we could do it forever.
TheHXC: You guys are already working on another full length; were there a
lot of songs left over from "The Plot Thickens"?
The Jonbenet: "The Plot Thickens" was everything we had so far. There wasn't anything left over. We have 12 brand new songs ready for our full length.
TheHXC: Would you say the new material borders on the same, or rather the many lines the first one does?
The Jonbenet: Not really. Musically it's all over the place. Mostly darker, but still some straight up punk songs, and some dancy stuff, but lots of southern influence in there.
TheHXC: There are a lot of forms of music that makes up The Jon Benet, what are some of the styles of music that influence you guys more than others?
The Jonbenet: We like tons of music. We basically want the energy and aggression that a hardcore band has, but not playing in the typical hardcore style. Musically we are influenced a lot by stoner rock, sludge, dirty rock n roll, hardcore, etc.
TheHXC: Would you call Jon Benet screamo?
The Jonbenet: If people call My Chemical Romance screamo, then no.
TheHXC: Are there any bands lined up for a tour before or after the new album?
The Jonbenet: There's tons of stuff lined up. None of which am I at liberty to say.
